About The Tempest

Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, has been usurped by his brother, the King of Naples, and sent to live on an island, far from civilisation. 

For 12 years, Prospero has practiced sorcery, ultimately raising a tempest that drives his usurpers ashore. The entire play takes place on the island, where the native inhabitants, Ariel and Caliban, help and hinder Prospero’s work.

Stephen Dillane returns to the stage for the first time since winning a Tony Award for Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing. Dillane is also known for his screen work which includes Mel Gibson’s Hamlet, The Hours, Welcome To Sarajevo and mini-series John Adams.

American actor Christian Camargo plays Ariel in The Tempest. Camargo has appeared on Broadway several times, including in the role of Hamlet. However he is probably best known for playing Rudy in US TV drama Dexter.

Young British actress Juliet Rylance (Miranda), the daughter of acclaimed actor Mark Rylance, has appeared on stage both in New York and London, including at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. 

The Tempest plays alongside As You Like It as part of the Bridge Project at the Old Vic.

As You Like It: The Bridge Project

Sam Mendes is back at The Old Vic in London to direct the second year of The Bridge Project, featuring Shakespeare’s As You Like It.

About As You Like It

As You Like It is one of Shakespeare’s pastoral comedies.

As You Like It follows its heroine, Rosalind as she flees persecution in her uncle’s court, accompanied by her cousin Celia and Touchstone the court jester. Eventually, she finds safety and love in the Forest of Arden.
