Are the cheap theatre tickets sold at those stands near Leicester Sq. genuine?

Oh and when is it best to go and buy them? Are they cheaper if you wait longer? Or do you have to go as early as possible before they sell out? What time?

I was thinking about cheap(ish) tickets to concerts/theatre. Although if you have any different suggestions, they’re welcome 
Um, I’m only from Manchester, so I’ve already been quite a few times.
Already done the London Eye, Madam Tussuads, the Dungeons etc.
I was thinking like, things that tourists won’t necessarily hear about, anything like that?
