Earls court where all travellers first hit London!! Okay you have earls court station entrance on earls court road or cromwell road. take an edgeware road train to notting hill gate (two stops) then change for central line. This will take you to Marble Arch, Oxford circus, Tottenham court road. Central enough ! Pick up a tube map from the station.
If you walk down the earls court road towards Old Brompton road, and turn right it will take you to a main road, North end road, Fulham. (about 8 mins walk) There you will find a street market. Theatres??? Well station again this time piccadilly line to Hammersmith. Get out and look for King street, here you will find the Lyric theatre. Or central london, Charring cross. Also, there is the lost theatre in Fulham, two stops district line to Fulham broadway, come out turn left 50 metres! If you are there on saturday then you should take district line to notting hill gate and check out portobello road.

You can look at/print off a map from googlemaps or multimap.com for free. And a tube map from tfl.gov.uk

Earls Court is a couple of miles from the very centre and the Theatres. Ten minutes from Earls Court Tube. Be aware there are two exits out onto two different roads when you leave Earls Court tube station (Earls Court Rd and Warwick Rd).

From Earls Court tube you can get on the Piccadilly line direct to Piccadilly Circus and your on the edge of Shaftesbury Avenue and the Theatres.

In terms of distance, it’s not far, maybe three miles. Earls Court is a cheap and bustling area to stay in - good choice!

Maps: go to the London Transport website (I’ve listed the map page below) but you can pick up their free maps all over the place in London (tube stations etc).

Theatres: there aren’t any theatres in Earls Court itself. The nearest one is the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith (two stops west on the District and Piccadilly line tubes from EC, coloured green and dark blue, respectively).
The vast majority of theatres are in the area of Shaftesbury Avenue-Leicester Square area - take the tube to Leicester Square itself, seven stops east from EC on the Piccadilly line (dark blue on the tube map).
See below for a link to the Official London Theatre Guide’s map showing all the theatres in central London with the nearest tube stations.
Incidentally there always used to be a discount ticket booth for shows in Leicester Square itself - a bit hit and miss for what’s available, but you could save yourself a bundle.

Markets: it depends what you’re after, but if it’s antiques Portobello Road is not far from Earls Court and it’s open on Saturdays - two stops up the District line (green on map) to Notting Hill Gate and follow the crowds.
There are tons of others, depending on how far you want to go - the ones I always recommend are Covent Garden (Covent Garden tube, one stop on beyond Leicester Square, or a short walk) and Camden Lock (Camden Town tube, on the (black) Northern line), both big and buzzy.
The best place to look is the London Markets website as it tells you all you need to know - see the link below.

Sorry for rambling, and have a great time.

Earls court is in Central London. I think you mean the city of London.

Theatre land is mainly in WC1/WC2 & W1, The strand and Shafetsbury avenue have the majority of theatres
